First download PVYmessenger for your favourite platform you operate on your Desktop or Mobile. Further, you can also use our Web App for it.
Visit https://messenger.pvy.swiss
Regardless where you first login, either on the Web or in the App and after you sign-in with your PVY-ID you can choose a unique username. This can be part of your name or something more fancy.
After succesful login, your account is created and you will receive a prompt to secure your Encryption Key, protected by a passphrase to your desktop. Or you can copy it to a note on your mobile (Should not be a note synced with a public cloud provider). This step is of tremendous importance. Without a backup of your encryption key, you can not fully restore your encrypted conversations in case you lose your Device or have a Hard-disk failure. Please note that there is also a seperate encryption key used for encrypted channels, which you can export or copy.
Regardless of whether you made your first setup on a Mobile Device, on Desktop or in the Web App of PVYmessenger, you can sync as many Devices as you like on different platforms enabling them to stay up to date, wherever you are. You can also define the notification settings for each of them.
For each of your Devices, when you login, you will receive a prompt, which requires your action to confirm its you and to verify the session, either by scanning a QR-code or comparing a set of emojies on both devices, which have to be similar. Once done, the cross-key signing will be activated on these devices, so your additional device is now capable of decrypting received encrypted messages.
Note: If a session is not verifed, your encrypted messages received in past, can’t be displayed due to a missing encryption key. Depending on the amount of messages you have and how many private channels you are subscribed to, it can take moment to load the history and also decrypt the messages for you, to make them readable again.
If the Session Verification fails or the displayed emojies are not congruent matching, you may be compromised.
